A Tricky Pet

I do so love giraffes,

They’re wonderful and tall.

If I had a friend who was one,

I think we’d have a ball.

I do so love giraffes,

They have a coat of spots.

And if one would let me,

I’d comb their coat of dots.

I do so love giraffes,

They have a purple tongue.

I’d like to have a pet one,

Whether old or young.

I do so love giraffes,

It could live in my back yard.

But that, I suppose,

Might prove a little hard.

So instead,

I have a cat.

And although it’s very short,

I suppose I’m alright with that.

A Leopard Never Changes His Spots

How do we know the leopard never changes his spots?

He’s not stalked by hidden undercover cops.

How do we know he is always just the same,

And not hiding from the law and changing his name?

How do we know that he’s not different at night,

Wearing a leather suit, dressed head-to-toe in white?

How do we know he’s not a detective by day?

Fooling us all in his own wily way.

But I suppose we should just join up all the dots,

Cause we know leopards do not really change their spots.

An Unfortunate Face

Tortoises are just one of those funny looking creatures,

With rather unique unusual facial features.

They’re wrinkly all over with fold after fold,

Though they’re not necessarily particularly old.

It must be somewhat frustrating looking near pension age,

When in actual  fact you’ve just started on the opening page.

And that gargantuan shell you live in that you have to lug around,

It’s not stealth, more like conspicuous gigantic dark brown mound.

But don’t worry that in beauty they’ve been unfortunate to fail,

At least they beat the hare in that good ole traditional tale.

Never mind, no fear, it matters not a jot,

People seem to like them anyway and really quite a lot.
